Welcome!

Hello to all and welcome to my math blog where we will look at many things revolving around math! The overall purpose of this blog is to analyze different teaching styles, appropriate mathematics activities, use of technology for math classes, and much more! In this blog, you will be able to see my journey and development with math. To get to know me better, I'll provide a brief background about me! I recently finished my general science degree and received my Bachelor of Science at Brock University. My main focus area was around Chemistry and my second was on Child and Youth Studies. I am now enrolled once again here at Brock University for Consecutive Teacher Education-Junior/Intermediate.

Math is one of those subjects that I have a love-hate relationship with. I get a sense of pride completing a hard math question but also want to break my pencils while doing triple integrals for physical chemistry class. We've all been in that math class where you flip to the back of the textbook to see you got the wrong answer and just want to make a scene but instead we cry internally. We've all had that the thoughts in our head asking "Why are we doing this?" or "Am I going to do this in real life?" Here is to hoping I will learn how to limit those thoughts with new teaching styles and technology!

Hello to all my mathletes in the house! via GIPHY It has been 2 weeks since we last talked about MATH! That is like 336 hours or 20160 minutes without knowing what has been happening in EDBE 8P29! Well, we had 7 brave souls perform their math activities, one game presented by our five lovely groups, EQAO questions assigned to our class, and a few new ideas from our professor- including the famous Traxoline and our favourite kind of math questions, PROBLEM SOLVING! Math Activities Everyone that has done their math activities has done an amazing job! Here are some photos of some math activities. T. Campbell's presentation T.  Filipovic's presentation C. Fellows' presentation I have always loved working with shapes! Last year I played with shapes at the YMCA program I worked at with the students I had. They absolutely loved working with shaped and designing animals and figures with the shapes the way this pres...

Dear Math, Why are you still the same? Week One Reflection

You know what is a fun email to get during your summer break? Well the answer isn't a refresher mathematics quiz! Oh, the horror a math quiz based on my program stream and to make matters worse I had to pay money to put myself through this inevitable suffering! "MOM! WHERE IS MY GOOD CALCULATOR" is one of the first things I yelled once I received this email from Brock University. I hate doing tests and I hate doing online tests even more. Going into this quiz I was worried sick that I would do poorly. How much do I remember from grade 4 to grade 10 math? Well Daniel-from-the-past, 78% worth is the answer to that question. Here is the thing I had against this math quiz- if it was done in person how many Teacher Candidates, including me, would score higher due to educator giving part marks to the process of getting there? Maybe, the fact that I put one extra decimal point that I was not supposed to would not have lost me the marks if I had written the test in person, and ...
